Mod & Rockers Raw Streets UK 1976 - 82
The publishers describe this as a book, but it's more of a high quality zine, but let's call it a book, because the makers do. So, this is a pure youth culture photography book, with no words or captions, depicting the most stylish to the somewhat daft, but always real, not manufactured. Like the title says, it has a raw street feeling. The cults included are revival mods, Teds and rockers; working class, down at heel dandies living for the weekend and peacocking as best they can with the few quid they have.
The book shows the photography of Janette Beckman, whose work has been exhibited in galleries worldwide and is in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture, the Museum of the City of New York, Marseille Musée des Civilisations de l'Europe, and the Tokyo Nakamura Keith Haring Collection.
